This is another Seestar-heavy stream. Why? I've been having a blast with it. The all-in-one design and quick setup and tear-down has been awesome. I haven't been this engrossed in astronomy in probably a quarter century.
If you're watching this later, I'm going to add chapter markers after the fact.
Also want to talk about the eclipse a little bit. I’ll be coming out with a video in a bit over a week about it.
Here's a summary of topics for today:
- New stuff: Bahtinov mask, cover.
- Firmware features and other bells and whistles.
- Weather app
- Latest observations. (Finally some good weather this week. Of course, full moon interferes, but the filter does help a lot.)
- Eclipse overview. Date, time of day, path it will take. (Show the Great American Eclipse website.).
- And one more thing...
New Stuff
I got a 3D printed Bahtinov mask and cover from Agena Astro.
(Show the first party solar filter.). People have been 3D printing stuff. I've seen adapters for other filters, for example light pollution filters.
Firmware features
Exposure changes. I tried 20 seconds and got trailing. It does say it can make signal to noise worse, which probably isn't great in heavily light polluted skies.
Host vs station mode: already was there. In host mode, you have to be relatively close. In station mode, you don’t assuming you and the telescope are on the same network. (So if you have some mesh network because your house has lots of walls, or you have a basement, or something, you can still access it.)
RTSP from Seestar (go directly into ECamm). https://www.seestar.com/tutorial?id=tutorial_12201. Solar, Moon, Planets, and Scenery modes support it. show: station mode, RTSP server. (If in station mode, it’s like a little web server on your network. So you can connect to it directly.)
Weather App
Atmospheric. Pretty cool.
Latest Observations
Finally some good weather this week. Of course, full moon interferes, but the light pollution filter helps.
One More Thing
And finally, the International Space Station crossing the Sun. I just filmed it this morning:
