This summer, I spent a few weeks in England with two of my kids. Since it was such a long trip and we were bringing a lot of stuff, I decided to buy a four pack of Apple AirTags (paid link).
I threw a couple of them in some carry-on suitcases just in case, plus I put another one in my camera backpack. (It was inspired by another camera backpack I ran across that had a dedicated pocket for an AirTag.)
As it turned out, my luggage wasn't lost, but I used it for tracking on more than one occasion, not to mention it added a lot of peace of mind, since my phone would notify me if one of our bags got a little too far away from us.
Besides luggage tracking, you can use AirTags for a lot more.
-
Item Tracking: The primary use of Apple AirTags is to keep tabs on your key personal belongings such as wallets, handbags, and even vehicles. They connect to the Find My app on your iPhone, providing precise tracking capability. If you've misplaced an item with an AirTag attached, the app will guide you towards it with Intelligent Directions. This could be extremely convenient in daily life, helping you save time and reduce stress.
-
Lost Mode Activation: There's a fantastic feature called 'Lost Mode'. If you've lost an object, you can enable this mode, which allows anyone using an iPhone to scan the AirTag and receive information required to contact you. This collaborative feature increases the chances of finding lost items significantly as it harnesses the power of the millions of iPhone users worldwide.
-
Pet Tracking: Another popular use of Apple AirTags is for pet tracking. By attaching an AirTag to your pet's collar, you can track their movements if they're missing. While AirTags aren't a replacement for microchips or proper pet GPS devices, they can be a helpful supplementary tool for pet safety. We have a previous version of one of these dog collars (Paid link) and have been quite happy with it. (Plus it looks adorable.)
-
Personalized Sound Alerts: AirTags emit sounds to facilitate tracking. This functionality is beneficial when the item you're looking for is nearby but not visible, e.g., keys inside a couch. The sound alert feature helps you find your misplaced items more quickly.
-
Anti-Theft for High-Value Items: For critical or high-value items like tech gadgets or bicycles, AirTags can offer an additional layer of security. If such an item is stolen, AirTag users can provide crucial tracking information, increasing the likelihood of recovery. (There are AirTag holders for camera cages (Paid link), for example.)
-
Accessibility Features: Apple AirTags also come with accessibility features for people with disabilities. For instance, the Precision Finding feature integrates with VoiceOver on your iPhone, providing directions through sound for those visually impaired.
-
Travelling: When travelling, attach an AirTag to your luggage. If your luggage is lost or misrouted, you can track it using the Find My app. This provides peace of mind, ensuring that your possessions are safe and within your reach.
-
Child Safety: While Apple does not endorse the use of AirTags for tracking people, some parents attach an AirTag to their child's backpack for safety purposes. This could help provide additional peace of mind when in crowded places or outings.
